KILGORE Services for Jack C. Pyle, 84, of Kilgore will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Riley Pippen officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery in Longview. Mr. Pyle died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, in Plano.
Mr. Pyle, the youngest of three sons of H.L. and Ernest Pyle, was born Oct. 27, 1919, in Corsicana. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, Jack established Jack's Auto Parts in Kilgore, which he owned and operated for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sarah E. Pyle, in 2001.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack C. Pyle Jr. and Elizabeth Pyle of Longview and Robert G. and Jodi Pyle of Allen; and one grandson, Seth Pyle of Longview.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Feb. 5, at the funeral home.

Services for Lora Gay McKeown, 68, of Diboll, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, in the Family Funeral Care Chapel with Rev. Paul Mettlen officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Grove Cemetery.
McKeown was born Aug. 9, 1935, in Corsicana and died Thursday, January 15, 2004, at a Diboll nursing home. She had previously been employed as a nurse's aide.
Survivors: daughters, Brenda Burns, Joy Butterbaugh, Lorrie Swarnes, Norma Scrogham; brother, John Galloway; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

ODESSA _ Robert ``Bob'' M. Watson, 83, a retired postal worker, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Heritage Oaks Nursing Home in Corsicana.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dr. David Mindel officiating. Burial will be at Ector County Cemetery.
He was born in Odessa and was a member of the First Christian Church.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Elba Watson of Corsicana; son, William Kyle Watson of Balmorhea; daughters, Colene Frost of Odessa; Charlotte Collie of Harlingen; Marion Lou Cook of Corsicana; sister, Alline Reed of Upland, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.


James Roy  Zugg

ODESSA -- James Roy Zugg Sr., 74, of Odessa, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mark Riley officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Crow, and moved to Odessa in 1937 from Corsicana. He was a World War II veteran. He was as a Baptist.
Survivors: Wife, Rose Zugg of Odessa; sons, James Zugg Jr. and Cavin Wayne Zugg, both of Odessa; daughter, Deborah Cook of Odessa; brothers, Willie Jacob ``Jake'' Zugg of Midland, P.V. Zugg of Cairo, Egypt; sister, Addie Petty of Odessa; and six grandchildren.


John A. Morse

PITTSBURG - Services for John A. Morse, 84, of Pittsburg will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. with graveside services at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana. Mr. Morse died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. He was born June 17, 1913, in Union County, Miss. He had resided in Pittsburg since 1980, having moved from Lake Whitney. Mr. Morse, a member of Laguna Park Baptist Church in Laguna Park, was a retired boilermaker superintendent and was associated with the International Boilermakers Union Local 531 for 57 years. Mr. Morse was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Morse, on Aug. 4, 1982; his father, John Wesley Morse; his mother, Smantha Anne Hazelrig Morse; a son, Billy Alton Morse; and a granddaughter, Sheryl Morse. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnny and Noretta Morse and Gerald Morse, all of Pittsburg; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grand-children. Mr. Morse's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is 7-9 this evening at the funeral home.

BARRY, Texas  -  The funeral for Alma Kate “Katie” Williams, 74, formerly of Carlsbad, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home in Carlsbad, with James McCormick officiating.
Burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Jones, Don Eckland, Bret Jones and Cody Jones.
Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home.
Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Navarro Regional Medical Center in Corsicana, Texas.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Alma Kate “Katie” Williams was born Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1925, in Hurley to George “Emzy” and Myrtle Rogers Conn. She attended high school, in Hope and one year at State Teacher’s College in Silver City. She married Curtis Allen Teel on June 25, 1944. She married Alvis Earl Williams on Nov. 17, 1961. She worked as a legal secretary for the Carlsbad Irrigation District from 1959 to 1982. She was a member of Oasis Christian Fellowship, and later Abundant Life Fellowship after moving to Texas in 1998.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers, Robert and Leonard Conn; three sisters, Jessie Koch, Virginia Mary “Vergie” Conn and Nina Turley; and a daughter, Lela Jane Teel on Feb. 5, 1967.
She is survived by two daughters, Roma Teel Eckland of Mount Vernon, Ken., and Colleen Teel Jones of Barry Texas; two sisters, Mayme Earl of Gridley, Calif., and Edna Mae Howard of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 


Tennie A. (Lowe) Hamilton-Seay

Tennie A. Hamilton-Seay

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 1999, in Forest Avenue Baptist Church in Redmond for Tennie A. Hamilton-Seay, who died May 10 of cancer at age 86.
Mrs. Hamilton-Seay was born March 21, 1913, in Corsicana, Texas. Her maiden name was Lowe. In 1965, she moved to Washington, in 1975 to Newberg and in 1995 to Redmond. She overcame disabilities from polio -- contracted as a young child -- and worked as a cook and certified nursing assistant in Texas nursing homes. She was a member of Chehalem Valley Baptist Church and later Forest Avenue Baptist Church. Her two husbands, Wilbern Hamilton and Aaron Seay, died earlier.
Survivors include her daughters, Wanda Westbrook and Jerene Webb, both of Redmond; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Terrebonne Pioneer Cemetery near Redmond. The family suggests remembrances to the Hospice of Redmond & Sisters in Redmond. Arrangements are by Autumn Funerals of Redmond.

She was born in Corsicana. She was a Baptist.

W. R. (Bubba) Echols
May 22, 1927 - Oct 15, 1999

W. R. (Bubba) Echols passed away early Friday morning, October 15, 1999. This was a favorite time of day for him, made even more special as he was surrounded by his family. He had battled emphysema for several years.
Bubba was a rancher, team roper and story teller. Many of his stories came from his large family, which was very important to him. He often told many interesting and humorous stories which are just a part of how he will live forever in our memories.
Bubba lived in Bayfield for many years. He was PTA president and president of Pine River Arena Association. He helped revive and support Bayfield High School girls basketball in ‘69 and the tradition of senior trips. He was instrumental in starting BHS Rodeo and was an influential community supporter for many years even after he moved to New Mexico.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma; his daughters Robin Snooks of Bayfield, Sana Echols of Taos NM; Trudy Kremer and Tish Nelson of Bayfield; and his son Colonel Echols of Sioux Falls SD. He has 13 grandchildren, three great- grandchildren (another is on the way), and many nieces and nephews.
Bubba was born in Corsicana TX on May 22, ‘27. He attended new Mexico Military Institute in Roswell and was in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, he went to University of New Mexico and Hardin Simmons College in Abilene TX. He met and married Norma Hughes at Hardin Simmons in ‘50. They moved to Carlsbad NM and ranched there for many years, then moved to Bayfield in ‘65 to help Jack Hughes ranch. He eventually retired to a much smaller ranch in Las Cruces NM. He has led a long and full life, and it is without regret that we send him on to his roping partner in the sky.


Naomi Phillips

CARLSBAD  -  A funeral for Naomi Phillips, 84, of Avenue A, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hinze officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Phillips died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Naomi E. Phillips was born Sunday, March 28, 1915, to Victor Ney and Ada Viola Smith Crowley in Kerens, Texas. She grew up on a farm located in Elem Flat south of Dallas. She graduated from Kerens High School.
On Sept. 7, 1935, she married Shannon Travis “Shorty” Phillips in Kerens. They moved to Carlsbad in 1938.
She worked for the Carlsbad schools at Edison Elementary, Sunset Elementary and the Mid High as a cafeteria employee from 1949 until she retired in the early 1970s as a supervisor.
Mrs. Phillips was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She and her husband were instrumental in starting both Cavern Baptist Church and Hillview Baptist Church (Standpipe Road Baptist Church).
She was an avid gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 28, 1998.
Survivors include sons, Travis Phillips and Ricky Phillips of Carlsbad; sister, Jean Curts of Clovis, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Billy Weckel, Bill Brooks, Sam Bradley, Jim Callaway, Phil Birks and Richard Fry.

KERRVILLE - Jack C. Paul, 79, of Kerrville died Friday, April 9, 1999, in a San Antonio hospital.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Grimes Funeral Chapels with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
He was born June 23, 1919, in Kerens, grew up in Kerrville, lived in Tyler and Houston and returned to Kerrville in 1997. He was a retired executive director of Texas Association of Business, a member of Kerrville Church of Christ, the Supreme Lodge of SPJST, St. John's Lodge 53 AF&AM, and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Paul of Kerrville, five daughters, Charlotte White of Dallas, Janet Kervin of Pearland, Donna Grizzaffi of Houston, Susan Gathings of Kerrville and Gayle LeMeilleur of Fort Worth; two sons, Barney Byrne of Houston and Johnny Gathings of Kerrville; 12 grandchildren; and a niece.

Mrs. Brooks was born May 14, 1938, in Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Jones.

Martha Marie Raines, 61, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Mildred Baptist Church with Brother Tony Neal officiating. Interment will follow at Dresden Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Pennington, Allen Pennington, Bradley Boyte, Emmett "Bubba" Clemons, Chris Smithart, Cody Nelson, Jeff Raines, James Murphy and Steve Michael Pennington.

Martha was born Jan. 3, 1943, in Glasgow, Mo. She lived in Frost a number of years before moving to Corsicana. She was an employee for Wal-Mart for 20 years at the Corsicana location. She valued the time she spent with her family and friends. She loved to travel and do crafts. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Orville Lynn and Ruby Lynn Poteet; brothers, Richard Russell Lynn and Freddie Orville Lynn; and sister, Patricia Coppock.

Martha is survived by her husband of 38 years, Nathaniel Raines; four children, Dennis Raines and wife Debbie, Marty Stevenson and husband Darrell, Debbie Taylor and husband David, and Robin Stevens and husband Scott; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Willie Etta Pennington and husband Sid; and several nieces and nephews.

Lucille (Tullos) Hester

Lucille T. Hester

Daughter of a Civil War veteran and nearing her 102nd birthday, Lucille T. Hester died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004. She was born March 14, 1902, near Frost to James A. and Lula Tullos.

She proudly told all that her beloved "Papa" was a Confederate soldier who once wrote he had fought from behind every tree from New Orleans to Mansfield, La., but until Lucille was forced to admit her age at her 100th birthday party, she was always "about 39" to her grandchildren.

In 1924, she married James L. Hester. They lived in Corsicana and Austin until Jim's death in 1944. Lucille continued to live in Austin until 1989 when she moved to Harlingen to be near her son and his family.

Lucille is survived by her son, Judge Darrell Hester (Nell) of Harlingen; five grandchildren, Anne Flowers (Jeff) of Weslaco, Lowry Hester (Nancy) of San Antonio, Judy Green (Kelton) of Austin, Ellen Cave of Houston and Barbara Ponder (Dan) of Pasadena; and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Lucille will be interred beside her Jim in Corsicana. Graveside services will be at noon today at Oakwood Cemetery.

Doris Marie Keathley Moore, 85, of Emmett passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be held before service time. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel in Corsicana with Matt Stroder officiating. Interment will follow at Frost Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Moore, Trey Moore, Clark Moore, Troy Moore, Craig Earp, Kevin Zuehlke and Ronald L. Moore.

Mrs. Moore was born March 1, 1918, in Frost to Quilla Green and Carrie Belle Keathley. After graduating from Frost High School in 1935 and attending CIA in Denton, she married her high school sweetheart, Aldine Moore, June 25, 1937, in Waxahachie. They lived on the family farm near Emmett for all their 66 years of marriage. Doris was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Emmett and was active in the Ladies Worthwhile Club of Frost. She was a devoted wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aldine Moore; and sisters, Elsie Lively and Mildred Cox.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Kris and Rita Moore and Carlos and Karen Moore, all of Frost; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Charla and Troy Moore of Fort Worth, Kristi and Craig Earp of Frost, Clark and Holly Moore of Crawford, Kera and Kevin Zuehlke of Clifton, Cheree Moore of Waco, Jeff Moore of Fort Worth, Mark and Mary Moore of Chandler, Ariz., Trey and Amy Moore of San Antonio, Robyn Moore of Carrollton, and Andrew and Catherine of Frost; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Frank Tincher Sr., 72, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2004 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randall Evett officiating. Interment will follow Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Tincher, David Nitterauer, Marvin Young, J.D. Young, James Joles, and Jason Joles.

Mr. Tincher entered the U.S. Army in 1949 and served until his retirement in 1971 -- having attained the rank of master sergeant, E-8 -- after 20-plus years of service to his country. He served in different camps and forts in the United States. He served two tours in the Korean War from Oct. 20, 1950 until March 1, 1952. He also served in the Vietnam War for a year. He toured in Germany and Indonesia. Mr. Tincher was well-known as the "Big Man" from Gibson Discount Center. He was the most wonder father, his stories were never ending and always interesting. He will surely be missed. We all love our "Big Daddy"'; we lost a very good man, but heaven has gained another angel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Tincher; brothers, Jake, Luther and Jesse Tincher; and sisters, Josie Markham and Ruth Lesser.

He was a farmer and rancher, operator of General Mercantile Business in Powell for a number of years, a member of the First Baptist Church, and former member f the Navarro County Memorial Hospital Board of Managers.  He was also a native of Bazette.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clark E. Butler of Corsicana; a grandson, Jack B. Butler of Houston; one grand-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sandra Butler of Houston, and three great-grandsons.

He was a Trinidad native and had lived in Corsicana for the past 25 years.  Employed as a mechanic and a truck driver, he was an army veteran of World War II.

Mrs. McCulloch was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Tyler. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Lindon McCulloch; parents, Pat and Mattie Mitcham; brothers, James Mitcham and Roy Mitcham; sisters, Pattie Neatherly and Mary Erickson; grandson, Dennis Choate; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Lane.

Mrs. McCulloch is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Debbie McCulloch of Monroe, La.; daughters and sons-in-law, Jo and Edward Easley of Corsicana and Madeline and Bill Brannon of Waco; sisters-in-law, Helen Widner and her husband A.J. of Dresden and Sybil Mitcham of Hubbard; brothers-in-law, Shirley McCulloch and wife Dorothy of Corsicana and Billy Joe McCulloch and wife Peggy of Silver City; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Conner was born in Holdenville, Okla. on Sept 17, 1906.  She had been a Dawson resident since 1928.  She taught school in Dawson for many years.  She was a graduate of Denton High School and North Texas State University in Denton.  She was a retired public school teacher and a member of First Baptist Church of Dawson.
Mrs Conner is survived by sister, Helen Boyd of Kemp; nephew, John R. Rogers of Lexington, Ky; great nieces, Cassie Stoner of Frisco, Ruth Kumpe of Lewisville; great nephew, Robert B. Rogers of Dallas; and nieces-in-law, Barbara Conner and Mindy Maass of Dawson.

LUFKIN - Graveside services for Clark "Jake" Jacobs, 87, of Lufkin, formerly of Lake Mexia, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana with Church of Christ Elder Steve Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the service.

Mr. Jacobs was born Jan. 6, 1917, in Indian Gap to the late Aubrey A. and Lila (Shipman) Jacobs and died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, in Lufkin, where he had resided for the past three years.

Mr. Jacobs was a graduate of Texas A&M University in 1941, and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Navy and reached the rank of lieutenant senior grade. He commanded a control ship during the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach during World War II. After the war he began his career as an engineer with the United States Soil Conservation Service. He later became the county engineer for Limestone County, a position he held for 20 years. After retiring from the county, he began working for Frost Construction until his second retirement.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Paula Jacobs of Lufkin; two grandsons, Patrick Jacobs and wife Jeanette of Lufkin and John Jacobs of Austin; one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Elise Jacobs of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Betty Jacobs of Dallas; sisters, Angelea Carey and husband Arvis and Jamie Gilbreath, all of Snyder; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wilson Jacobs in 1995; his son, Larry Jacobs in 1999; his sister, Edith Jacobs Beavers; and brother, Audrey A. Jacobs.

Mrs. Rollin Guess

Mrs. Rollin Shaw Guess, 94, of Corsicana, died Sunday at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Corley Funeral Chapel.  The Rev Michael Metcalf will officiate.  Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
A native of Galveston who had lived in Corsicana since 1909, Mrs. Guess was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church since 1912.  She also served on the board of directors of the Twilight Home and was active in music and civic activities.
mrs. Guess was preceded in death by her husband Albert Alexander Guess in 1936 and son Ralph Guess in 1984.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Gladys Cheney of Charleston, S.C.; four grand-children, 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nepews.
Pallbearers are Joe Nussbaum, Bert Guess, Wade Blackford, Bobby Waddell, Jim Breithaupt, Homer Jester and William Clarkson.

Harold Conner, 83, of Corsicana, died June 23, 1996, in Corsicana.
Services were yesterday at 3:30 p.m. at Corley Funeral Chapel, with Bro. Fred Stevenson officiating.  Burial followed at Dresden Cemetery in Dresden.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Goodwin, Dan Goodwin, Rob Crespo, David Hughes, Bill Dosser and Steve Mullins.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Corsicana.
Mr. Conner was born Aug. 14, 1912 in Luther, Okla.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone.  He was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers and a lifetime member F C.W.A. Local 6217.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Lee Conner of Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Cathy Conner of San Angelo; grandsons, Christopher Conner of San Angelo and Michael Conner of San Angelo; sisters-in-law Betty Lewis of Corsicana and Dorothy and Jim Beaird of Tulsa; and nephew David and Leslie Hughes and family, of Tulsa.

Mrs. Gloria Green

Mrs. Gloria Green, 63, of Corsicana, died Monday at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Corley Funeral Chapel.  The Rev. Calvin Frances will officiate.  Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
She was a native of Kerens and a lifelong resident of Navarro County.  Mrs. Green was a member of Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Collin O. Green of Corsicana; three grandsons, Timothy Green, Phillip Green and Steven Green, all of Corsicana; a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Weldon Buchanan, George Chappell, Ray Dixon, Joe McGaugh, Arlie Pillow and Gene Williams.

JOHN BONNER JR
May 23, 1922 - Jan 29, 2004

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, John Bonner Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
John Bonner Jr. was born to Effie Shields Bonner and John Bonner on May 23, 1922, in Eureka, Navarro County, Texas. John graduated from Corsicana High School in 1939. He attended Texas A&M and left to go off to World War II in February 1942. He would have graduated in the class of 1943.

He graduated from Pilot Flying School as second lieutenant on Sept. 1, 1942. He was assigned Sept. 6, 1942, as student pilot instructor at Goodfellow Field. He left Goodfellow Field in February 1944 for fighter gunnery training in Florida, then to the European Theater with the 358th Fighter Squadron, 8th Air Force. He completed the 61-mission fighter tour and was at sea five days (en route home) when the European war ended. Decorations included the Presidential Citation, the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters, Fighter Sharp Shooter from Jimmy Doolittle, Commanding Gen. 8th Air Force, and multiple campaign ribbons covering the Battle of the Bulge.

Upon arrival home, he took the option of leaving the service. From that point on, he was in the cattle, sheep, and feed and grain industry. Business partners along the way were Gene Linthicum, Frank Newman, Gene Newman, James Duncan, Harry Knight and Ken Curtiss (Festus of “Gunsmoke”).

John was a Mason, rodeo committee chairman, San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Association director and president of the board of this organization. He later was awarded honorary lifetime membership of the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo. He was a director of the Chamber of Commerce. He was director and later president of the board of the West Texas Boys Ranch. He served as president of the board for Newman-Bonner Company, Newman Feed Mill Inc., Western Livestock Commission Co., Southwestern Livestock Mineral Co. and Southwestern Stockman Supply Co.

He was a rodeo cowboy previous to and immediately after World War II. He was FFA Honorary Farmer of the Year three different years in the 1960s and 1970s. Through rodeo, ranching, cattle-feeding and grain experiences, he was associated with people coast-to-coast, Canada to Mexico.

Among his rodeo honors was winning the Saddle Bronc, the Bareback Riding, the Bull Riding and the Wild Mule Race all in the same weekend performance at the annual Texas A&M Rodeo in October 1941. At Mexia in 1941, he split the bull riding with world champion bull rider Whitey Stuart. He rodeoed with good friends, Toots Mansfield, Louis Powers, Harry Knight, Chili Cole and others. To him, being called “cowboy” by such people as these, were among his greatest awards.

John is survived by his wife, Grace Rogers Bonner; two sons and daughter-in-law, John H. Bonner and wife, Shelby, of San Antonio and Wesley B. Bonner of San Angelo; daughter, Margaret Ann Webster and husband, Eddie Webster; two stepsons, Kyle Lee and Kent Lee and wife, Ruby; nine grandchildren, Clay Bonner and wife, Robyn, Lindsey Dietch and husband, Schyler, Richard Bonner and wife, Aleta, Trey Bonner, Trudy Hopkins and husband, Wade, Chad Breeding and wife, Tonia, Jerry John Breeding and wife, Rebecca, James and Kinser Bonner; six step-grandchildren, Jami, Cheyenne, and Chandra Lee, Brandi, Koltan and Kaleb Lee; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Jerrel Harris and wife, June; sister, Katye Lee and husband, Bob, of Gladewater; sister-in-law, Joy Miller of Bryan; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Josie Renea.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Effie Bonner; two older brothers, W. A. Harris and the Rev. L. Eugene Harris; cousin, Kathryn Kent of Corsicana; and a dear aunt, Minnie Lee Greer.

The family requests memorials be made to West Texas Boys Ranch. In addition, they wish to express their deepest appreciation for all the expressions of support and sympathy.

A special thank you goes to VistaCare Hospice for extending their professional and personal love and guidance to the family.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Spur Arena with Mike Burson officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m.

Grennie Bonner, 90, of Corsicana, died Tuesday night at Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Maloney Ann Rachel Cox, aged 73, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. G. Bonner, at Angus, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, were held Friday at 3 at the Hamilton Cemetery were interment was made. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Will Phillips, Baptist minister of Mexia.
Surviving are six daughters, rms. l. G. Bonner, Mrs. D. L. Bonner, Mrs. C. C. Bonner, Mrs. J. A. Bailey, Mrs. J. T. Bonner, Miss Lizzie Cox, all of the Angus comminity; one sister, Miss Ellen Allred, Angus; and one brother, W. P. Allred, Corsicana.

AGED ANGUS WOMAN DIED THURSDAY; BE BURIED ON FRIDAY

Mrs. Maloney Ann Rachel Cox, age 73 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. G. Bonner at Angus at 10 o’clock Thursday morning and funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at

He was a native of Tennessee and lived most of his life in Corsicana, a member f the North Beaton Street Church of Christ and a retired oil field driller.

Mrs. Melton is survived by a son, Larry A. and Phyllis Melton of Phoenix, Arizona; son Frederick A. and Kathy Melton of Corsicana; daughter, Brenda K. and Michael Ray of Corsicana; sister Maudine Montgomery of Dallas; sister, Ethel Parker of Kerens; 11 grandchildren; Frederricka, Kasey, Larry, Jr., Keith, Eric, Melissa, Holly, Matthew, Chad, Michelle, and Chris; 6 great-grandchildren; niece Barbara Radney of Rowlett; niece, June Baumgardner of Arlington; and great nieces and nephews.

Worth in 1989.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Corsicana and a member of its Willing Workers Sunday School Class.  She was a member of the Corsicana High School Band Parents Association.  She was the widow of Clarence Chester Crowson who was the former president of Whiteselle Brick and Lumber Company.
Mrs. Crowson is survived by a daughter, Sara Lee Gutherie and her husband, Robert G. of Burleson; a brother, Ralph Terry of Ryan, a sister, Wilma Finley of Kermit; grandchildren, Gabrielle Schmidt of Crowley and Guy W. Gutherie of Ft. Worth, and great-grandchildren, Luke and Ethan Schmidt.

Billie Jean Tucker, 76, of Corsicana passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Tucker was born March 29, 1927, in Corsicana to U.W. and Willie (Teasley) Rhodes. She worked for the City of Corsicana water billing department.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Dan and Martha Tucker of Kaufman; and grandchildren, Roby Tucker of Conway, Ark., and Rachel Tucker of Magnolia, Ark.

Frank A. Clause, 93, of Silver City passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at his residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Graceland Mausoleum at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Alexander of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mr. Clause was born Oct. 25, 1910, in St. Louis, Mo., to Frank M. Clause and Ida Estelle Shipley Clause. He was 3 years of age when he moved to Dallas and was raised by his maternal grandparents. After their death he went to the military academy in San Antonio where he finished school. Frank did many things in his lifetime. He worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass, a company his uncle owned, and he learned to do art glass. Being in charge of that department, he made most of the leaded and art glass for churches and high-rise buildings in the Dallas area at an early age. By the time World War II came along, he owned his own trucking company, marble machine company and jukebox company. In 1946 he took a job with General Motors of South Gate, Calif., retiring in 1976 he moved back to Purdon to be near his relatives. Uncle Frank, as he was known by all that knew and loved him, was a very friendly and loving person. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Corsicana Lodge No. 174. He was the past high priest and past phrice illustrious master of Corsicana Council. He was a member of the Karem Shrine and 32nd degree member of Waco Scottish Rite Bodies.

Survivors include his nephew and niece, Billy Sr. and Jo Lewis; niece and nephew, Becky and Teddy Fincher; nephew, David Lewis; great-nephew, Billy C. Lewis Jr. and wife Wanda; great-great-nieces and nephews, Scotty Lewis, Brandy Pullen and husband Terry, Daniel Thompson, and Stephanie Poarch and husband Jerry; and numerous great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

Maxine Nevins Gossage, 94, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Young officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Bradford, Woody Dosser, Roy French, Rodney McLaughlin, Franklin Neal and Jim Wood.

Maxine was born April 27, 1909, in Jackson, Mo., the daughter of John and Berta Nevins. She graduated from Woodbury University in California in 1928. In 1932 she married Wiley Burton "Bill" Gossage, who preceded her in death on June 19, 1967. Maxine was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving in numerous capacities including deacon and elder. In May 2001, she was presented with an Honorary Life Membership by the Presbyterian Church. Prior to retirement she worked as a secretary at the IOOF Lodge in Corsicana.

HUBBARD - Mrs. Virda Lillian (Vaughan) Fulton, 92, of Hubbard, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at a Mexia hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6 at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Ralph Lee officiating.

Mrs. Fulton was born Nov. 29, 1911 in Okemah, Okla., to James Thomas and Johnnie Vaughan. She moved to Texas in 1921 and had lived all of her life since then in the Hubbard area. She was a homemaker, enjoyed sewing and was a member Cold Corner Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Iva Doyle Fulton in 1983; and brothers, Clem Caldwell Vaughan in 1956 and Glen Wesley Vaughan in 1966.
Survivors include son, Doyle Fulton and wife, Jean of Hubbard; brother, J.T. Vaughan of Dallas; grandsons, Joey, Ronny, Scotty and Johnny Fulton; nine great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shoemaker was born March 22, 1909 in Corsicana. She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1926.

Preceded in death by husband Moses T. Shoemaker.

Obera Alma Arther, 98, passed away Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Heritage Oaks West in Corsicana.

Services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Harrell Memorial Chapel in Dublin with Dean Bradley officiating. Singer was Fannie Chambers and Nina Rae Schrader was organist. Interment followed at Hazeldale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Doug Purtch, Billy Neal Barr, Malcom Tatum, Burton Barr, Keith Cooke and Royce Westfall.

Mrs. Arther was born Jan. 23, 1906, in Comanche County to A.L. Westfall and Maggie Boyd Westfall. She married Claud A. Arther Oct. 13, 1923, in Stephenville. She was a retired employee of Duncan Rexall Drugstore in Dublin. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dublin.

Survivors include her daughters, Louise Hudson and husband Bill of Grandview, Billie Herod of Corsicana, and Bobbie Jacobs and husband Ray of Corsicana; son, L.J. Arther of Hillsboro; brother, Wilmer Westfall of Gustine; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Hospice of Waxahachie or First Baptist Church of Dublin.

Kenai resident Carl Henry Wetzel died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 75.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Kasilof Community Church. Pastor Paul Kupferschmid will officiate. Mr. Wetzel's graveside rites will be conducted at a later date at the Patterson Cemetery in Navarro County, Emhouse, Texas.

At the Alaska services, honorary pallbearers will be Brandon C. Timmerman, Carl E. Wetzel, Tyson O. Wetzel, Travis Wetzel, Pvt. Scott R. Sausedo, Joey Faulkner, Jason L. Stuart and Carl's good friends Ray Carr, Ron Frison and Bill Stuart.

Mr. Wetzel was born March 16, 1928, in Emhouse, Texas to Otto Fedrick and Mary Epsy Wetzel. He was married to Alta "Lynn" Walker Wetzel on May 28, 1949, in Corsicana, Texas.

Mr. Wetzel attended Emhouse Community School and numerous oil and gas field training programs during his career in the Cook Inlet oilfields. He was a career oilfield worker and worked in Texas and many western states as a hot oil truck operator. He began his Alaska work career on the Cook Inlet platforms and concluded his career in the Kenai gas field as an operator for Unocal in 1993.

He was a member of the Kenai Elks, lifetime member of Fifth Street Baptist Church in Levelland, Texas and attended Soldotna and Kenai First Baptist churches and the Kasilof Community Church as his family moved often on the Kenai Peninsula from 1969 to 2004.

"Carl was a beloved father and husband, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and uncle who had many many friends whom he cared deeply for. He had an incomparable zest for life and an abiding belief in everlasting life. His favorite quote was 'Eat, drink and be merry' and his favorite scriptures were John 3:16 and Psalm 23," his family said.

Mr. Wetzel served in the Army National Guard in Corsicana, Texas as an Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic attached to Company D, 143rd Infantry. He loved, fishing, sports of all kinds -- especially the Dallas Cowboys -- bowling, baseball and was happiest on the golf course. He often was named "Best Coach" of Levelland Little League Association Baseball and Regional Tournaments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto F. and Mary E. Wetzel; brothers, Bud, Rusty and Edward Lee; and sisters, AnnieBob, Pauline, Letha McClintock, Hazel Smith and Suda Faye Moore; and his granddaughter, Tara Leah Wetzel.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alta L. Wetzel of Kenai; daughters, Carla Timmerman Stuart of Kenai and Cynthia Lynn Sausedo of Newport News, Va., formerly of Sterling; sons, Burton Lee (Speedy) Wetzel of Anchorage and Carroll James Wetzel of Prescott, Ariz. and Soldotna; sons- and daughters-in-law, Keith L. Stuart, Melody L. Wetzel, Grace Anderson-Wetzel and Michael Sausedo; grandchildren, Stacey Ackerman, Brandon Timmerman, Tyson Wetzel, Travis Wetzel, Keiki Brianna Wetzel and Carl Edward Wetzel, Pvt. Scott R. Sausedo, who is now serving in Iraq, Jason L. Stuart, Joey Faulkner and Justin, Travis, Brandon and Heather Anderson of Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Natasha Ackerman of Kenai and Sierra, Luke and Dylan Ackerman of Hollister, Calif.; sisters, Mary Lou Lefan of Cleburne, Texas, and Geneva Flo Hanks of Ennis, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and sisters- and brothers-in-law.

Carl Henry Wetzel

Carl Henry Wetzel, formerly of Corsicana and Levelland, Texas, and at the time of his passing a 35 year resident of Kenai, Alaska, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska with his family by his side. He was 75.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 6, at the Kasilof Community Church. Pastor Paul Kupferschmid officiated at the service. The family gathered for a private visitation on Friday, March 5 at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, Kenai, Alaska.

Mr. Wetzel's graveside rites will be conducted at a later date at the Patterson Cemetery and/or St. Elmo Cemetery at Navarro County. At the Alaska services, Honorary pallbearers were Brandon C. Marvin O. Stutts, 64, of Athens, died June 12, 1990, at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Paschal funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Munns and the Rev. David Hill officiating.  Burial will be in the Kerens City Cemetery.

He was a veteran of World War II and retired from LTV Corp. in Dallas after 30 years.

He is survived by three daughters, Carla Reston of Burleson, Kristi Rhodes of North Carolina, and Cindy Stutts of California; six brothers, T. L. Stutts and C. W. Stutts, both of Corsicana, W. W. Stutts of Jacksonville, C. E. Stutts and Thomas L. Stutts, both of Houston, and D. L. Stutts of Athens; four sisters, Doris Johnston of Malakoff, Melba Fuller of Athens, Ann Gilbert of Canton, and Judy Hughes; and two grandchildren.  Nephews will server as pallbearers.

Geneva Flo Hanks, 86, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, from Forney, Texas. Burial will be at Pattison Cemetery.

Flo was born in Emhouse, Texas, on December 15, 1932, to the late Otto Frederick and Mary Epsey (Williams) Wetzel. She grew up in Emhouse and graduated from Emhouse High School in 1949. On June 25, 1949, she married Marvin R. Hanks, Sr. and they made their home in Corsicana, Washington state, Wilmer for 34 years and finally to Ennis in 1991.

She owned and operated her own shop called Flo’s Beauty Shop for 26 years and was a seamstress for three years for Melrose. She was a longtime much-loved member of Anthony Drive Baptist Church of Ennis and the Rebekah Lodge of Ennis. She was above all a Christian who loved her Lord and adored her family. She enjoyed gardening vegetables, bird watching, and games with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Marvin Hanks, Sr.; granddaughter, Jennifer Hetmer; four brothers; and seven sisters.

Survivors include her son, Marvin R. Hanks, Jr. and his wife, Sherry; daughters, Deborah Bowen and her husband, Johnny, and Kim Edleston and her husband, Earl; grandchildren: Jeff Edleston and his wife, Melanie, Marianne Bowen, Melody Ann Hanks, Tommy L. Silvers and his wife, Hilary, Louis Flory, III, Marvin R. “Hank” Hanks, III and his wife, Brittany, Kristina Kempton and her husband, Paul, Brandi Bowen, Susan Stevens and her husband, Shannon, Stephanie McQueeny and her husband, Peter, and Joseph F. Hetmer and his wife, Krystal; 17 great-grandchildren; along with a host of extended family and friends.
