Marjorie D. Thomas, 82, of Temple passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Temple. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, 500 W. Barton Ave., Temple.
Mrs. Thomas was born April 26, 1924, to William and Della Grantham in Corsicana. She married Carroll Yeager Thomas Oct. 22, 1952, in Baltimore, Md., retiring to Temple in 1978. She worked as a volunteer at Scott &
White Memorial Hospital and at the Hospice Thrift Store.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband in 2003 and a brother, Robert Graham Grantham.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Fox of Troy; son, Mark Thomas of Houston; son, W. Paige Ballard and wife Dianne of Sterling, Va.; sister, Fredda Klisiewicz of Temple; sister, Bobbie Tidwell of Ennis; brother, Wendel
Grantham of Taft, Calif.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Samuel Hugh Brewer, 87, of Barry passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Dr. Rick Lamb and Dr. David Kimberly
officiating. Interment will follow at

pallbearers will be members of the Business Men’s Sunday School Class at Northside Baptist Church.
Mr. Brewer was born June 9, 1919, in Azle to James Malford Brewer and Mattie Elizabeth Alexander Brewer. He
served in the United States Army in World War II and the National Guard. He was a member of Northside Baptist
Church. He served 12 years on the Dawson school board. He liked to play 42 and visit with friends.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Taylor Brewer of Barry; son and daughter-in-law, David and Cathleen
Brewer of Barry; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and James Miller of Corsicana; five grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers, J.M. Brewer of Corsicana, S.M. Brewer of
Arlington and Jerrel Dwain Brewer of Quinlan; sisters, Willie Lee Coker of Corsicana, Angie Lee Tarrance of
Arlington and Geneva Speed of Corsicana.

Mrs. Laedtke died April 10, 2007 in a Tyler hospital. She was born August 26,
1959 in Dallas, Texas.
She was a member of Hope Community Church of Murchison, Texas, and was a
cosmetologist.
She was preceded in death by parents, Jimmy L. Freeman and Bobbie Fields
Freeman; aunt, Dorothy McNew; and son, James B. Buckholtz.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Laedtke; daughter, Bobbie Smith of Ben
Wheeler, Texas; brothers, Bruce Pledger and Steve Freeman, both of Gun Barrell
City, Texas, Jimmy M. Freeman of Arlington, Texas, Terry F. Dale Freeman and
Richard K, Freeman, both of Dallas; and 3 grandchildren.

Samantha Cythia Ann (Rogers) Stough

Away Friday Evening
After a number of weeks of illness during which several strokes of paralysis
were suffered and a great amount of pain endured, the gentle spirit of Mrs. C.
S. Stough departed this life for the eternal, Friday evening at eight o’clock at
her home on South Oak street.
Mrs. Stough was 81 years of age and is survived by eight children—four sons and
four daughters. All of her children have been with her during different times
during the long weeks of illness, doing all possible for her happiness and
comfort. These children are: C. W. Stough and P. P. Stough of Arlington, J. C.
Stough of Waco, W. Stough of Corsicana, Mrs. C. F. Stamps of Wizard Wells, Mrs.
M. O. David and Mrs. B. F. Carroll both of Corsicana, and Mrs. Polly May
Harrison of Purdon. There are also 28 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The funeral cortege left Arlington Sunday morning about 11 o’clock for Dresden,
near Waco. Rev. Mr. Doherty of the Methodist Church at Eureka, and Rev. Mr. Roy
of Purdon, conducting the services. Interment in the
Dresden cemetery followed the
services.
Mrs. Stough was known as a loving and kind mother, a thoughtful and loyal
friend. She will be sadly missed from her place in the home, the church and the
community. The sympathy of all friends and acquaintances is extended to these
good people in the loss they have sustained in the death of mother and
grandmother.
Among the out-of-town friends and relatives who attended the funeral of the late
Mrs. Stough were: Mrs. Zora Butler and daughter, Dorothy Nell, sister and neice

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR MRS. C. S. STOUGH
ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct. 29.—(Spl.)—Mrs. C. S. Stough, aged 81 years, died at her
home, 410 Oak street Saturday night at 8 o’clock and the funeral services were
held at the Dresden Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock with
burial in the
Dresden cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. I. R. Darwood, Eureka Methodist minister, and
Rev. J. F. Adams, pastor of the Eleventh Methodist church of Corsicana.
Surviving are four sons, W. M. Stough, Corsicana; C. W. Stough and Johnny
Stough, both of Arlington; and Rufus Stough, Waco; four daughters, Mrs. Florence
Stamper, Wizard Wells; Mrs. Allie Dowd and Mrs. B. F. Carroll, both of
Corsicana; and Mrs. J. C. Henderson, Purdon; twenty-seven grandchildren,
twenty-two great-grandchildren, three brothers, Wilbern Rogers, Montgomery,
Ala.; Milton Rogers, Anson; and J. E. Rogers, Corsicana; three sisters, Mrs. W.
B. Anthony, Hereford; Mrs. Glasco Ficklin, New Castle; and Mrs. Zora Butler,
Ennis.

 Retired Senior Master Sgt. Hastings Sullivan Key Jr., 84, of Corsicana and
formerly of Austin, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Heritage Oaks
Retirement Village.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral
Home, Corsicana.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at New Beginnings Family Fellowship in Blooming
Grove with the Rev. Bryan Connally officiating. A full military graveside
service will be held at noon Saturday at Luling City Cemetery in Luling.
Mr. Key was born July 22, 1922, in Port Lavaca to Sullivan Key Sr. and Thelma
Roberts Key. He graduated from Runge High School in 1940. He attended The
University of Texas until the war started. He joined the Army Air Corps to serve
his country. He was the only survivor of a mid-air collision and then was shot
down over Germany and was a POW of World
War II. Hastings returned to Austin and worked at Western Electric. While in
Austin, he met the love of his life, Delores Thurman, and they married May 5,
1950. He was recalled in 1951 to the Air Force and retired in 1979 after serving
in Turkey, Germany, Japan and Thailand. He worked for GTE and retired after 10
years. Then he volunteered at the VA. Hastings was an avid baseball fan. In
2002, he moved to Blooming Grove to be closer to his grandsons and watch them
play ball. He then became an avid Lions fan. He attended New Beginnings Family
Fellowship in Blooming Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Key of Corsicana; son, Jim Key and wife
Sharon of Austin; daughter, Jane Connally and husband Bryan of Blooming Grove;
grandchildren, Parker Connally and Garrett Connally of Blooming Grove, Christy
and Van Hilderbrand of Austin, Brandy Key of Houston, and Misty and Scott Green
of Houston; and nine great-grandchildren.

On Saturday morning, April 21, 2007, Margaret Kerr Goodyear died peacefully,
with a small group of her family and close friends gathered around, in her house
in Bryn Mawr, Pa. She finally found the strength and calm to let go after
battling illness for a number of months.
Maggie was born in 1922 in Corsicana, daughter to Elva and Lloyd Kerr. She was
married to Frank H. Goodyear Sr. in 1993 and was previously married to John T.
Chew Sr. from 1944 until his death in 1988.
She is survived by her three children, John T. Chew Jr. of Wayne, Pa., Margaret
C. Newbold of Cornish, N.H., and Robert R. Chew of Grantham, N.H.; two
stepchildren, Frank H. Goodyear Jr. of Paradise Valley, Ariz., and Alison G.
Freehling of Charlottesville, Va.; and three grandchildren, John T. Chew III of
Wayne, Pa.; Juliana C. Newbold of Durham, N.C., and Robert R. Chew Jr. of
Radnor, Pa.
She was an active member of the following clubs and organizations: The Garden
Club of Philadelphia, from 1949 until 2007, serving as president from 1970 until
1972; the board of directors of The Garden Club of America in the 1980s; The
Acorn Club; the Women’s Committee for The University of Pennsylvania Children’s
Hospital; Cliveden of The National Trust for Historic Preservation; and an
honorary member of The Orchestral Committee of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She
was also a regular contributor and successful competitor in the annual
Philadelphia Flower Show.
Maggie was on the board of directors at Beaumont, and served as the first woman
chairman. Additionally, she was an accomplished golfer and member for many years
of The Gulph Mills Golf Club. Finally and maybe lesser known to some, was that
Maggie, or Marg as she was affectionately referred to by her family, had a love
of traveling, horseback riding and fly fishing in Wyoming, grandmothering,
cooking, and most of all providing tough but unconditional love to all of her
family and friends.
Services for Margaret K. Goodyear will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at
St. Martins Church on King of Prussia Road in Radnor, Pa.

She was born on March 9, 1985 in Dallas, Texas. She was a Preschool

Paralegal.
She is survived by her Parents Jerry and Nellie Steinmann, Brothers

Myron Gilmore “Monk” Kyser Sr., 89, of Rowlett passed away Thursday, April 19,
2007, at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Kerens with
the Rev. Buddy Moore officiating. Interment will follow at
Kerens Cemetery.
Mr. Kyser was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Kerens. After spending his childhood and
graduating from high school in Kerens, he served in the Air Corps during
World
War II. Upon honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from SMU before
starting his own business in Hillsboro. Following retirement, Myron moved to
Lake Whitney where he enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with
old friends at the American Legion. He then moved to Waco where he was highly
involved in the Sul Ross Senior Center. He had spent the last year living with
family in Dallas. Myron never met a stranger and brought happiness to everyone
around him. He would often say, “I’m just happy to be here,” and he meant it. He
could light up a room with his smile and charming personality. Even when faced
with his most recent adversity, he would try to lift the spirits of those around
him with a smile and a wink. We will miss him dearly, and we thank God for the
time we were blessed to share with him.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Kyser; mother, Ella Kyser; and
older brother,
John Henry.
Survivors include his three sons, Tom, Myron and Keith; one daughter, Bettie;
four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Danny Ray Lenox, 54, of Elk passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007, at his
residence. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Wade
Funeral Chapel in Hubbard. The family will receive friends before the services
Monday at the funeral home.
Danny was born April 9, 1953, in Corsicana to Elmer Ray and Lilly Jewell
(Prince) Lenox. He was a graduate of Frost High School and was Catholic. Danny
was a veteran having served in the Navy for six years. He later worked for
almost 20 years as a case worker for the Paralyzed Veterans Administration in
California, Washington, D.C., Little Rock, Ark., Houston and Waco. Danny was
also a hang gliding enthusiast who flew ultralight aircraft and was once
featured on “That’s Incredible” television program. He also worked with the Boy
Scouts and served as a troop leader.
He was preceded in death by his son, Byron Lenox in 1997.
Survivors include his mother, Jewell Snodgrass and husband Jim of Hubbard;
father, Elmer Lenox of Hillsboro; brothers, Ron Lenox and wife Giselle of San
Diego, Calif., and Gary Lenox and wife Paula of Hubbard; sisters, Marilyn Horn
and husband Keith of Bynum and Carolyn Wren of Malone; and numerous aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Allen Blake Northern, 86, of Waco passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at
St. Catherine's Nursing Home after a long illness. Graveside services will be
Monday, April 30, 2007, at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m.
Sunday, April 29, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Waco.
Allen was born in Emmit, Texas, the fifth of eight children. He played in a
country western band as a teenager when he met Evelyn Fae Duggan, who he married
on Christmas Eve, 1940. They moved to Waco where Allen worked and coached Little
League before opening Allen's Auto Supply in 1962. Although Allen had no formal
education beyond high school, his engineering skills were used during World War
II at the Waco Army Air Base where he worked on fighter planes. A devoted Little
League coach, it was rumored in the family that Northern Little League was named
after him. He loved gardening, golfing, bowling, and working on cars. He was
very skilled with his hands and could build almost anything by just looking at
it. Allen and Fae operated Allen's Auto Supply together for over 20 years before
retirement when together they built a lake house on Lake Limestone and enjoyed
bringing the family out on weekends. He was a member of Central United Methodist
Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Fae, in 2000; his parents; and
four brothers.
He is survived by his sons, Randy, and Larry and his wife, Vicki; grandchildren,
Blake Northern and wife, Chris, and Kim Nye and husband, Jay, Breeanne Leonard
and husband, Kyle, and Robin Northern; great-grandchildren, Amanda Nye, Rance
Northern, Scott Nye, and Chelsey Northern; brother, Roy Dan and wife, Imogene;
sisters, Georgia Ruth Carroll and Mary Frances Schrader; and many nieces,
nephews, and cousins.

Blake Northern
Allen Blake Northern went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2007, at St.
Catherine’s Nursing Home after a long illness. Family graveside services
will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Waco Memorial Park with Elder
John Byrom officiating. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4
p.m. Sunday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Allen was born April 17, 1921, in Emmett, the fifth of eight children.
He played in a country western band as a teenager when he met Evelyn Fae
Duggan, who he married on Christmas Eve, 1940. They moved to Waco where
Allen worked and coached Little League before opening Allen’s Auto
Supply in 1962. Although Allen had no formal education beyond high
school, his engineering skills were used during
World War II at Waco Army
Air Base where he worked on fighter planes.
A devoted Little League coach, it was rumored in the family that
Northern Little League was named after him. He loved gardening, golfing,
bowling, and working on cars. He was very skilled with his hands and
could build almost anything by just looking at it.
Allen and Fae operated Allen’s Auto Supply together for over 20 years
before retirement when together they built a lake house on Lake
Limestone and enjoyed bringing the family out on weekends. He was a
member of Central United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Fae, in 2000. He also
survived four brothers.
He is survived by his two sons, Randy and Larry and Larry’s wife, Vicki.
Survivors also include his grandchildren Blake Northern and his wife
Chris, and Kim Nye and her husband Jay, Breeanne Leonard and her husband
Kyle, and Robin Northern. His great-grandchildren are Amanda Nye, Rance
Northern, Scott Nye, and Chelsey Northern. He is also survived by
siblings Roy Dan and Imogene Northern, George Ruth Carroll, Mary Frances
Schrader and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

charity of choice.

World War II and retired
from A.P. Parts Corp. He lived in Tyler for 45 years and was a member of
First Baptist Church of Tyler. He was preceded in death by his first
wife, Eloise Scoggins.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby D. Scoggins, Tyler; son, Wesley
Scoggins, Long Beach, Miss.; stepson, Robert Ballard, Arlington;
stepdaughter, Dr. Trisha Ballard, Carrollton; sisters, Maurine Rhodes,
Leda Watson and Inez Hammonds, all of Corsicana; four grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.

Edward Wayne “Ed” Pollard of Palm Springs, Calif., passed away at Desert
Regional Hospital with family and friends at his side on April 27, 2007.
Ed was born Oct. 12, 1941, in Osceola, Texas, to Lucille and Harold
Pollard. He graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in
education. After serving in the Air Force, Ed taught for a few years in
Texas but decided that his true interest was in the real estate field.
He received his brokers license and operated a successful real estate
business for over 30 years in Corsicana. He was a broker with Century 21
and opened the first Century 21 office in Corsicana. He had served on
the Navarro County Board of Realtors since 1972. He was a chairman from
1980 to 1995. He was a two-term director for the board, vice president,
and was president of the board in 2003. Ed was very active with the
Association of Realtors as well as the Chamber of Commerce in Corsicana.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Corsicana.
After retirement, Ed moved to Palm Springs as he had visited the area
quite often and had expressed the desire to relocate at some point in
time. Ed quickly adapted the desert retirement life and enjoyed the
relaxing environment. During his time in Palm Springs, he developed a
number of close friends and was recognized for his southern drawl, smile
and keen sense of humor. Ed was an avid walker and enjoyed the desert
mornings during his daily four-mile walk.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Phillip Michael
Pollard.
He is survived by his loving children, daughter, Kristen and husband
Chen Tsu of Plano; son, Roney and wife Misti Pollard of Fort Worth;
three grandchildren, Mya, Brendan and Cortlyn; and two brothers and
their families, Bob of Keller and Harold of Crystal Beach. He is also
survived by a number of devoted family and friends both in Texas and
California who will dearly miss him.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Corley Funeral Chapel.
Interment will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday at Covington Cemetery in
Covington. A celebration of life will be held for Ed in Palm Springs
with the time and date to be determined.

Pearlene Hollie was born May 31, 1918, in Flynn to Dave Johnson and Ida
Johnson. She received her formal education in Dallas. She graduated from
Mary Allen Junior College in Crockett. She started teaching school when
she was 17 years old in a one-teacher school in Marquez. She continued
her education at Tillotson College where she finished. She attended
Texas Southern where she received a master’s in education and a special
education certification from Baylor University. She attended Howard
County College in Big Spring for piano, music and voice. She also
attended The University of Texas for music. She taught school in the
Corsicana Independent School District until she retired in 1986. She was
also a licensed beautician.
When she retired, her permanent residence was in Waco. Due to her
illness she was moved back to Corsicana and resided at Mel-Haven
Convalescent Home until it closed in June. She was moved to Heritage
Oaks West and deceased there.
She went to a variety of churches and did what she enjoyed best —
playing the piano.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Guthrie
Johnson.
The angel of silence entered into her life Tuesday, May 1, 2007.
She is survived by cousins, friends and her adopted families, Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Johnson and Mr. Frank Sustiata.

at her residence.

Mrs. Jones was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Powell. She attended G.W. Jackson
High School. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she
served as musician, mission member and senior choir member. She was a
beautician for many years and a nurse’s aide at Navarro Regional
Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ella Stovall; 10
siblings; two grandchildren, Kathy Green and Kim Sims; husband, the Rev.
R.L. Jones; and son, Ralph Johnson.
Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Sims of Corsicana;
grandchildren, Tommy Sims (Debra), David Sims, Lloyd Sims, Scott Sims,
Jennifer Williams (Gregg), Kevin Butcher, Tosha Butcher, Rickey Johnson,

Nora Graves Heacker Reese was born Sept. 26, 1914 to Dr. Herman Everett Heacker
and Doris Grace (Smith) Heacker in Knoxville, Tenn., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Reese left this world for a better place on May 1, 2007.
Nora graduated from Oliver Springs High School in Oliver Springs, Tenn. She left
her home in Tennessee and moved to Texas to attend North Texas Teachers College,
currently the University of North Texas. While attending college she met and
married her beloved, Roy, in 1934, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage
prior to his death. She and Roy had one son, Tom, who along with his wife Janet,
of The Colony, survive her.
Nora and her family moved to Corsicana in 1952 where they became active in the
Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Women’s work of the
church as well as in the community. She served as a Cub Scout Den Leader, the
Community League of Voters and Kinsloe House. Nora also volunteered as a “Pink
Lady” at the hospital for a number of years as well as serving with the Food
Pantry program. She enjoyed all types of table games, especially bridge, canasta
and rummy as well as spending time in the outdoors fishing and camping with Roy
and Tom.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Reese is preceded in death by her
siblings; brothers, Herman Heacker Jr., Howard Heacker and Bill Heacker; and
sisters Martha Smith and Elizabeth Davis. Survivors include sisters Sallie
Ferris and husband Frank of Harriman, Tenn., and Louise Smith of Oliver Springs,
Tenn.; brother Frederick Heacker and wife Robbie of Harriman, Tenn. Along with
her siblings, Nora is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and a
host of friends.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Nora Reese will be held at the
Westminster Presbyterian
Church at 4 p.m. today, followed by a visitation.
Memorials may be sent in her memory to: Shriners Children’s Hospital, c/o Hella
Shrine, 2121 Rowlett Road, Garland, TX, 75043.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Oaks West Nursing Home, and
Navarro Regional Hospital for the love and care given to Mrs. Reese during the

Betty Jo Owen Wareing, 82, of Lufkin passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2007, in Lufkin.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Corsicana with the Rev. Ed Monk officiating.
Mrs. Wareing was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Corsicana. She was a member of Lufkin Junior League. She was instrumental in founding Lufkin Hospice, an active member of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church in Lufkin, and was a duplicate bridge life master.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nelda Wareing Bate; and parents, Fred and Jewel Owen.
Survivors include her husband, Edgar C. Wareing of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Pat Wareing of Sugar Land and Fred O. and Addie Wareing of Lufkin; grandchildren, Robert O. Wareing, Rebecca E. Wareing, Lori Wareing and Jon C. Bate; and great-grandchildren, Wrangler, Mackenzie, Garrett and Mason.

Born December 19, 1927 to James Roper and Mae Leoma Gregory Roper in
Shamrock, Texas.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, with services to be held Wednesday at
2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schusler
and Rev. Mike Alexander officiating, Burial will follow at

Peggy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, She served on

her health problems arose, she was an active member of the United
Methodist Woman, serving in several capacities. Very active in the WYO
program for the past several years, she served as secretary - treasure
of the Friendship Sunday School Class for the last six years, at the
current time she was serving on the Prayer Card Ministry, she was a life
member of the VFW Ladies Auxilliary, Post 3366. She was employed by the
First National Bank of Corsicana for twenty one years, retiring as Vice
President in the Trust Department in 1989.

Church or to the Hospice of Cedar Lake.

Peggy Flynn, 79, of Corsicana passed away Monday, April 30, 2007, in Corsicana.

Freda Lee Teer Freda Lee Teer, 74 of Kerens, passed away Saturday morning April 28, 2007 at her

Freda was born on March 13, 1933, in Cawker City, Kan., to Fred and Amy Madison.
She was a longtime employee of Humbert’s Hickory House and Bill’s Fried Chicken.
She was preceded in death by her three daughters, Lynn Awalt, Jaynece Awalt and
Claudette Hopkins; and sisters, Ruth Awalt and Ann Bottenberg.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years Bobby Teer; daughter and son-in-law,
Cindy and Larry Anderton of Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Freda

Robert Clifton “Bob” Jackson Jr., 83, a native of Corsicana and resident of the
Cryer Creek community of Navarro County, passed away Friday, April 27, 2007, in
Corsicana. He was born July 30, 1923, in Corsicana to Robert Clifton Jackson Sr.
and Minnie Lee Farish Jackson.
He graduated from Barry High School and was in the first class of Navarro Junior
College. He also attended Hill Junior College, Baylor University, and graduated
from Baylor Law School with his LLB and Juris Doctorate degree. He was a veteran
having served with the 556th Army Air Force Unit during
World War II. He served
Navarro County in the State Legislature from 1955 through 1960. He worked within
the Democratic Party for over 25 years. He was appointed and served as judge of
the Corsicana City Court for three and a half years. He was appointed and
elected county judge of Navarro County. He was in the practice of law in Navarro
County for 50 years.
He helped organize Civitans Service Club in Corsicana and served as president.
He taught government classes for Navarro Junior College to employees of Terrell
State Hospital. He was a farmer and rancher. He was president of Navarro Junior
College Ex-Students Association in the mid-1950s, served on the YMCA board of
directors, and was president of the Navarro County Bar Association.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Corley Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at
Oakwood Cemetery with the
Rev. Harold Scott officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Jackson Jr. and Minnie
Jackson; and a sister, Carolyn.
Survivors include his wife, Marianna Clements Jackson of Barry; stepson, Gerald
Guthrie of Garland; stepdaughter, Lou Ann Guthrie of Barry; four granddaughters

Luther V. Tanner, 96, passed away April 27, 2007, in Ennis. He was born Jan. 23,
1911, in Navarro County to his parents, John and Pleasant Tanner.
Luther served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was
a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge 63 since 1943.
He worked as a finish carpenter, construction superintendent in the building
construction industry. He was also employed as a maintenance man for U.S. Gypsum
for 15 years, retiring in 1973.
Mr. Tanner is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Johnie and Monte Shipley
of Eufaula, Okla.; daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Clyde Spencer of Quinlan;
son and daughter-in-law, William and Anna Tanner of Denton; 12 grandchildren, 23
great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Tanner; and his son, L.V.
Tanner.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel with Mr.
Steve Orbison officiating. Interment will follow at
Oakwood Cemetery.

Graveside services for Beverly Ann Melton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at
Kerens Cemetery in Kerens.
Beverly passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007. She was born March 12, 1936, to
George and Eula Gray Melton in Corsicana. She was preceded in death by her
father and mother, George and Eula Gray Melton; brother, Billy Baron Melton; and
niece, Stacey Huffman.
She is survived by her sister, Madelynn Shaver, and nephew, Scott Shaver, of
Tyler; nephews, Justin and Cody Melton of Fort Worth; niece, Tana Roquemore of
Whitehouse; nephew, Charles Shaver of Euless; numerous cousins and a very
special aunt, Frank Smotherman of Corsicana.
Beverly graduated from high school in Waco and entered St. Paul School of
Nursing in Dallas where she graduated as a registered nurse. She worked for many
years at St. Paul Hospital in surgery. Upon moving to Corsicana, she worked for
28 years at Memorial Hospital in surgery and emergency room. She was a member of
Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.
Beverly always wanted to be a nurse and took great satisfaction in her work. She
became a victim of Alzheimer’s and had to give up the profession she loved so
much. She loved to sing, crochet and do crafts. She has passed from the shadows
of Alzheimer’s into paradise.

Letha Emmaline Keathley, a few days prior to her 98th birthday, passed
away Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Heritage Oaks Retirement Center. Mrs.
Keathley was born May 15, 1909, in McGregor to parents Luther and Sarah
Grantham.
Letha attended McGregor and Corsicana public schools and graduated from
high school in England, Ark., in 1928. In 1927, she was a starting
forward on the Arkansas state championship girls high school basketball
team.
Upon the death of her mother, Letha moved to Corsicana in 1922 and
resided with her aunt, Pherba Huckabee. From 1924 until 1928 Letha
resided with her father in Arkansas. Letha returned to Corsicana in 1928
and graduated from the Lacy Rice Corsicana Business School. She loved
her piano and played part time for local silent movie theaters.
In 1929, Letha and Charlie Keathley were married on the front porch of
her parents-in-law-to-be, the John Hampton Keathley’s home, at Jones
Ranch near Frost. Letha and Charlie entered into a wonderful 60-year
loving marriage.
From 1929 until 1972 she was employed with the Navarro County Tax
Assessor and Collector’s offices. In 1970, she was appointed chief
deputy to Jerry Sam Scott, the head of that county office.
Letha resided most of her life in Corsicana except for a brief period
during the mid-1930s when she and her husband were transferred to Denton
with American National Insurance Company. They returned to Corsicana in
1936 when her husband was appointed district superintendent of American
National. Letha and Charlie resided the remainder of their lives in
Corsicana.
Letha was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a
longtime member of First United Methodist Church and was a founding
member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was especially
proud of her grandfather who once hauled cypress logs by ox cart from
the Houston area to provide support foundations for the original
Corsicana Methodist church. It was upon this site where she would spend
many years in fellowship and worship.
During World War II, Letha did volunteer work by sewing pajamas and
items for the American Red Cross. She was a leader in local PTAs,
scouting programs and served as an officer for her Sunday school class
and in the Navarro County A&M Mother’s Club. As a lifelong member of the
Democratic Party, she also served as a voter registrar, a polling clerk
and a precinct election judge. In some capacity or another, she
participated in every local election from the early 1930s until the
mid-1980s.
Letha loved her close circle of church friends and family. There were
many memorable picnics and “84” games at the old Magnolia Lake Club and
complex south of Corsicana.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Pherba, in 1938; two
brothers, Harold and Horace Grantham, in the 1960s; and her husband,
Charlie, in 1989.
She is survived by her son, C. Robert Keathley; a grandson, Steve
Keathley, and his wife, Sarah, and their children, Luke and Katherine,
Letha’s two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to our friends for their
prayers and well wishes; and a heartfelt thanks to the aid of Family
Service Association, Food for Fitness program, Angels at Home, Letha’s
skilled physician Dr. Kyle Hamilton, and all the wonderful staff and
caregivers at Corsicana’s Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.
A special appreciation is extended to home caretaker, Mrs. Bonnie
“Carrie” Wilson of Corsicana, for her steadfast loyalty, Christian
concerns and loving attentiveness for Letha in her time of home-bound
needs and comforts.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral
Home.
The Rev. Harold Scott will conduct Letha’s services at Corsicana’s
Oakwood Cemetery at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, May 9, at her place of interment near the American Legion
flagpole hill.

John Martin, Bobby Fluker, Dee Hawkinson and Billy Lewis.
A calm, patient, generous and caring lady, Mom, and our Grannie, shall
be dearly missed until we’ve all crossed over that river to reunite and
rest together in the shade of the trees.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the
Rev. William Dollar officiating. Interment will follow at
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Braudrick, Kenneth Julian, Wes Davis, Joe
Golden, Kerry Garrison and Howard Sparbanie. Honorary pallbearers will
be Stoney White, Trent Crosby, Bell Cummings, David Wilson and Kenny
Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was born Oct. 11, 1951, in Paris, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, the Rev. Eddie Wilson and
Billy Joel Nowell; and parents, Edgar Thurman and Jessie Thelma Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wilson of Corsicana; daughters,
Lindsay Wilson of Fort Worth, Misty Lempke of Haltom City, Shawn Jimenez
and husband Earnest, Brandy Sparbanie and husband Howard, and Sherry
Gray of Lubbock; sons, Kenneth Julian and wife Elizabeth of Corsicana,
and Ray Julian and wife Linda of Weatherford; brothers, Bobby Nowell of
Paris, Texas, David Wilson and wife Lawanda of Cleveland, Texas, and
Kenneth Wilson and wife Judy; sisters, Lou Davis of Corsicana, Betty
Saint Gean and husband Eugene of Purdon, Sue Benson and husband Gene,
Mary Judkins and husband Jerry of Lubbock, Nancy Hokit and husband
Everritt of Broken Bow, Okla., Carole Braudrick and husband Jerry, and
Pat Goodwin and husband Larry of Graham; 18 grandchildren, one
great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews and many loving

Charles Lallan “Kelly” Camden, 77, of Dresden passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007,
at his residence.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Steve Orbison
officiating. Interment will follow at
Campbell-Elrod Cemetery.
Mr. Camden was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Point Pleasant, W.V., to Joseph Camden and
Inez Jordan Camden. He was a chemical engineer for Owens Corning for many years.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F.
Survivors include his sons, Todd Camden and wife Carol of Point Blank and
Charles Camden Jr. and wife Terry of Oakhurst; daughter, Cyndi Hart and husband
Roy of Goodrich, Kelly Mitzunaga and husband Lynn of Salt Lake City, Utah; 12
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Camden of Lexington; and
sisters, Connie of Lexington and Lillie of Mexia.

Homer Paul Bonner, 68, of Wortham and formerly of Streetman, passed away Sunday,
May 6, 2007, at Wortham Nursing Home.

Mr. Bonner was born April 29, 1939, in Teague to Ernest Bonner and Afton
Fullerton Bonner. He was a rancher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bonner in 2006; and son, H.P.
Bonner Jr. in 1962.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Duane West of
Tehuacana, Paulette and Lamar Addy of Mexia, and Marlyn and Lance Bland of West;
grandchildren, Dellynn Pratt, Randall Addy and Macy Savage; sister-in-law,
Cheryl Mullens; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Carter.
